Sioux Falls People For Youth

Sioux Falls People for Youth, a non-profit organization, is nearly 30 years old and is made up of 24 volunteer committee members. Our common goal is to promote youth softball in the Sioux Falls area.

SFPY annually hosts an ASA National Qualifier Tournament for two age groups in June, and our invitational tournament, The International Ringneck Tournament, held over the July 4th weekend. This tournament attracts over 100 girls teams in four age groups: 12, 14, 16, and 18. The proceeds from these tournaments are our group's only source of income.

Each year representatives from our group travel to the ASA annual meeting, where bids are presented for girls national tournaments. This year's tournament will mark the 4th class A girl's fastpitch national tournament we have hosted.

Money raised by SFPY is used for promoting youth fastpitch softball in our community. Some areas of support include:

Indoor pitching clinics, beginning in January, when outside temperatures fall below the zero mark.
Youth ASA coaches clinics featuring nationally known clinicians. More recently we have supplemented our hands on clinics with the ASA ACE program.
We help teams with travel expenses when they travel to national tournaments or to the ASA Hall of Fame Tournament.
Our youth umpires attend a local youth umpire school supported by our group.
New 7 and 8 year old ball players learn about softball at a jamboree hosted by our group.
2009 marks the 7th year we have awarded 5 college scholarships to graduating seniors from our South Dakota softball family.
We have invested money in facilities and equipment to improve the softball environment in Sioux Falls. This includes the nine digital scoreboards and for 2009 the new bleacher canopies. We also purchased all of the temporary fencing used for youth events,

Our group works closely with the Sioux Falls Convention and Visitors Bureau, Sioux Falls Park and Recreation Department, and the local softball leagues. We are sure you will be greeted by members from these entities during your stay in Sioux Falls.
